Sometimes I get lucky.

This photograph is a perfect example of going and looking for a picture and then being prepared when something unexpected happens.

This was taken at Nicola and Andy's wedding reception at Rudding Park near Harrogate in Yorkshire. I liked the look of the big windows and decided to go outside in the cold and dark to see whether I could make a good picture looking back in through the window. I had a picture in my mind - using the window to frame the activity in the room and the correct exposure would give me a nice dark window frame and a correctly exposed interior.

So I went outside and had a look, framed it up and was trying to make a nice composition but there was nothing really going on and the couple had their backs to me, so it wasn't great.

Then they kissed.

I snapped away for a few frames and the moment was gone, but I knew I had it.

It's the best feeling you can have as a photographer. I knew that I had captured a moment that nobody else had even seen, never mind photographed.
